Title: Journalism Fellow, The Daily Signal
Reports to: Editor-in-Chief, The Daily Signal
Job Summary: The Journalism Fellow works alongside the editorial team to produce compelling news content across all media platforms. This fellowship provides an opportunity for mentorship, professional development, and hands-on experience in a fast-paced newsroom. This is a one-year fellowship.
Job Duties:
- Pitch, film, edit and appear in original, newsworthy, video content on a variety of original stories, with a particular focus on Capitol Hill and the White House, following editorial guidance laid out the Daily Signal leadership team.
- Work collaboratively to help produce a variety of weekly shows, including, but not limited to, The Signal Sitdown, Problematic Women, Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words, and Victor Davis Hanson: In a Few Words.
- Draft and schedule social media posts.
- Create thumbnails and other social media graphics.
- Help develop innovative approaches to storytelling and audience engagement.
- Contribute to special projects and investigative reporting efforts.
- Participate in editorial planning meetings and pitch original story ideas.
- Represent The Daily Signal at appropriate media conferences and functions.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree
Experience: Past journalism and/or college news reporting or video experience preferred
Communication: Excellent editing and writing skills
Technology: Microsoft Suite, WordPress, Adobe Suite
Other Requirements:
- Understand and support The Daily Signal’s goals and objectives.
- Ability to handle multiple projects, prioritize them, and deliver first-rate work.
- Able to think creatively and innovatively and use data to inform strategy.
- Superb organizational, collaborative, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Fact-check content for accuracy and verify sources.
Benefits and Salary:
The salary for this role is $55,000 annually. As a temporary position, this role is eligible for some of The Daily Signal Institute’s benefits package, including "take what you need" PTO and sick leave.
